The Southern Rightwhale Dolphin is easy to recognise on the sea. It is the only dolphin without a dorsal fin on the southern hemisphere, and besides that it has easy to spot black and white colour drawing on its side. But on great distances and when it swims fast, it can be mistaken for a penguin, and if it swims slowly it can be mistaken for sealions or seals. It looks like it's Northern counterpart, but is a bit smaller and has a whiter head and flanks. The two species doesn't mix geographicly. Newborns are grey/brown or cream colored, and develops their adult colours in their first year.

Behaviour:

Graceful movements. Often wanders in a series of small or short jumps. Resembles penguins in movements. When it swims slowly the surface is only disturbed a little and only a small part of face or back is shown. Dives can last 6 minutes or more. Some pods allows people to near them, but other flees. Smaller groups has been seen bowriding. Pod seeking.
