Dolphins
by Scott Walker
(Homepage)
     The dolphins swim in the

          phosphorescent sea,
     Under a sky of brilliant

          crimson.
     They dart and play under

          the azure waters,
     The have no responsibilities

          and none are given.

     Beneath the rippled surface

          they dance,
     Skimming the earthen bottom

          they smile.
     And leaping into the air

          they laugh.
They do this day after day,

          mile after mile.

     Meanwhile I sit at home

          or at school,
     Responsibilities pile high

          around me,
I dream and yearn to do

          what I choose,
     Like the dolphins who

          swim in the sea.
